Ballaghderreen to face Crossmolina in Mayo SFC quarter-finals

REIGNING champions Ballaghaderreen have been drawn against John Maughan’s Crossmolina in the quarter-finals of the TF Royal Hotel and Theatre Mayo Senior Football Championship.
That’s the stand-out fixture thrown up by Monday night’s draw, which sees Ballintubber take on Knockmore, Charlestown play Kiltane and Shrule/Glencorrib face Castlebar Mitchels. All ties will be played on the last weekend of September.
In the Intermediate Championship, only six of the quarter-finalists are known, since there’s a three-way play-off in Section 2 involving Belmullet, Swinford and Davitts. The eventual winners of Section 2 will meet Tourmakeady in the last eight, with Kilmaine facing Achill, Westport playing Mayo Gaels, and Cill Chomain taking on the Section 2 runners-up.
In the Junior Championship, three of the last 16 matches have yet to be played, but the quarter-final draw sees Castlebar play Kiltimagh, Crossmolina or Ardnaree take Carramore, Parke play the winners of Islandeady and Charlestown, while last year’s finalists The Neale face Lahardane or Ballina Stephenites B.
As for the relegation play-offs, the Senior Championship has paired Burrishoole with Moy Davitts, while Ballinrobe take on Garrymore. The losers of those games must then play each other, with the loser of that fixture being demoted. It’s a similar scenario in the Intermediate Championship, where Louisburgh must take on Hollymount, and Crossmolina B paired with Bonniconlon.
Finally, the semi-final draw for each of the three championship sees the winners of the first and fourth quarter-finals meeting each other, while the victors in the second and third also face off. This means Ballintubber or Knockmore will play Crossmolina or Ballaghaderreen, while Charlestown or Kiltane face Shrule/Glencorrib or Castlebar Mitchels.
