Lotto

There was no winner of the Crossmolina GAA Club lotto jackpot on Saturday night 21st of February 2015. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 12 and 18. There were four match 3 numbers, Joe Harte, Molly Daly, Stephen Rowland and David & Vera Hopkins, they win €30 each. Next weeks’ jackpot is €6,950. The draw was held in . Crossmolina had the assistance of a stiff breeze in the opening half in this North Mayo Winter League tie played in Tallagh Belmullet on Sunday but poor shooting with eight wides left a mountain to climb facing the elements after the break Where Ballycroy took their chances and ran out comfortable winners.

Astro Turf Update

 

Work commenced on Astro turf playing facility;

Work has commenced on the construction of the Astro turf playing facility. The development committee with help from the RSS and AGS cleared the site on Saturday last. Crawfords moved onto site on Monday the 23/02/15. Please obey all construction signs and safety notices during the construction phase.

Annual Bord na nÓg Quiz and Presentations;

The annual Bord na nóg quiz is being held on Friday 27/02/15 from 7.30pm in Hineys Upper Deck. The presentation of medals and individual awards will be at 9pm.

Senior Club Annual Presentation night;

Will be held on Friday the 27/02/2015 in Hineys Bar from 10pm. Please support this annual event as we recognise the achievements of those working within the club.

Membership.

The club Registrar Andy Gray will be available in Hineys on presentation night for anyone wishing to join club Crossmolina or to pay their annual club membership.

National University of Ireland Galway confer an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree on former GAA President, Dr Mick Loftus

A retired coroner and GP, Mick Loftus served as the 28th President of the GAA from 1985 to 1988. As a football player, Dr Loftus played for his native Crossmolina (now Deel Rovers), winning a Mayo Senior Championship medal in 1947, and a Junior medal in 1955. He represented his county at Junior, Minor, and Senior levels, and was captain of the Mayo team that won the 1957 All-Ireland Junior final. He had also been a member of the Mayo team that won the 1951 All-Ireland Senior Football Final. He refereed the All-Ireland Senior Football Final in 1965 and 1968, and the Minor final in 1964. He also participated as Chairperson of the National Referees’Committee and the Rules Revision Group, and was President of the Connacht Council.

Dr Loftus is an advocate for active aging, and was a recipient in the first All-Ireland Inspirational Life Award for his work as chairman of National Council of Aging and Older People, and participated in the 2011 World Senior Games, winning four medals in the 80-85 age group: gold in the 3000m and 400m, silver in the 1500m and 150m. At a previous games, he had broken the world record for 2000m in the 75-79 age group.
