Crossmolina made the long journey to sunny Ballinadine on Sunday a worthwhile one with a five points win over Davitts. Playing with the assistance of a slight breeze in the first half Sean Kelly and Liam Kearns exchanged points in opening 6 minutes. Thomas McNulty and Mickie Loftus added points before Liam Kearns pulled one back on quarter hour.
The decisive score of the game came five minutes later when a long ball played in toward the Davitts goal, and with the goalkeeper advancing Thomas McNulty got a fist to the ball that rolled into net. Sean Kelly added two points from long range. Liam Noone replied with two for Davitts and J.P.Kirrane came from wing back to kick a neat score to leave Crossmolina 1 – 5 to 0 – 5 in front at the break, it should have been greater were it not for having hit a number of bad wide’s through bad shot selection and passing the ball to a colleague who was covered.
Crossmolina played much better as a team in the second half controlling around midfield with Sean Kelly, Mickie Loftus and Thomas Cafferty doing trojan work all over the park. Sean Kelly notched two points and McNulty one, which were cancelled out by Caolan O’Gara, Matthew Trench and Richie Kilkenny. Shane Keane pushed his side four points ahead, before Matthew Trench and Thomas Cafferty traded points. In the 48th minute Gerard Haran and Sean Waldron exchanged points and Haran again to leave the final score 1 – 12 to 0 – 10 for a deserved win.
